Departing at 7:30 AM in two buses, the students were accompanied by Mr Poh Li Zhe, Mr Alvin Lim and Ms Pa Pa Min as they headed to one of the region’s most prestigious innovation exhibitions. ITEX, known for showcasing over 200 cutting-edge projects from inventors, researchers, and entrepreneurs worldwide, offered the students a unique opportunity to witness real-world innovations firsthand.

During the visit, students took on the role of evaluators, judging at least three projects using official criteria. The experience aims to sharpen their critical thinking, improve presentation skills, and inspire better project design.

A simple trip — but a big step toward real-world innovation learning.

The exhibition was organised by the Bachelor of Computer Science (Hons) in Artificial Intelligence programme, and led by Dr. Ong Lee Yeng, Dr. Goh Pey Yun, Mr. Poh Li Zhe, and Dr. Jashila Nair Mogan.

The exhibition featured 22 groups of students from various academic majors, including Information Technology and Engineering, showcasing innovative Artificial Intelligence solutions. Each project was developed with the integration of the Huawei Framework, highlighting students’ ability to apply industry-relevant technologies in real-world AI applications.

The exhibition served as a platform to demonstrate creativity, technical proficiency, and interdisciplinary collaboration among students. One outstanding group was awarded Best of the Best, with the winning team comprising Ms. Ko Shan Si, Ms. Koh Kai Xin, Ms. Lim Jia Qi and Ms. Lim Jia Shyuan.

He requested a dedicated presentation to learn more about the project’s direction and potential applications.

Prior to the visit, Bimage KL’s CEO, Mr. Don, had already proposed an exciting opportunity for MMU Final Year Project (FYP) students to experiment with Bimage’s construction-related software to explore new features that could address real industry challenges.

To ensure students gain accurate industry insight and validate whether their ideas align with real needs, a physical interaction session was arranged. Several FYP students attended the live demo and Q&A session, gaining valuable exposure to actual construction-tech problem statements.

This collaboration marks a meaningful step toward industry-driven learning and hands-on experience for MMU students.

Dr. Yong, who serves as the Industrial Advisor for the BCS AI programme and the Phase 2 Technical Chairman driving Malaysia’s High-Performance Computing (HPC) strategy and implementation, extended this special invitation to provide academicians and students with first-hand exposure to national-level discussions shaping the future of computing infrastructure and AI innovation.
The symposium brought together leaders from government, academia, and industry to share insights, address challenges, and align priorities for Malaysia’s National HPC Framework. Participants explored global trends and applications, exchanged experiences and technological needs, and contributed directly to developing a pragmatic, demand-driven roadmap for sustainable and sovereign supercomputing in Malaysia.
For students, the event offered a valuable opportunity to connect with experts and witness how AI, data-driven decision-making, and supercomputing capabilities intersect to support Malaysia’s digital transformation goals.
This participation highlights the active industry-academic engagement embedded in the BCS AI programme, where both lecturers and students contribute their perspectives to national-level discussions on shaping Malaysia’s technological future through supercomputing and AI.

The Faculty of Information Science and Technology (FIST), 91 (MMU), is proud to celebrate the outstanding achievement of our students from BCS (Hons) (AI): Mr Loh Jinsen, who, together with his teammate Mr Ang Zhen Loong, formed Team Malayan Tiger and emerged victorious at the prestigious China–ASEAN Artificial Intelligence + Cultural Tourism Innovation Competition 2025.

 

Competing against 506 registered teams, with only 50 advancing to the finals, Loh Jinsen and his team secured both the Grand Prize and the Most Outstanding ASEAN Award, along with a cash prize of 200,000 RMB. Their innovative project, TravelMate AI, is a multilingual intelligent tour guide and personalized itinerary planning platform that impressed the judges with its creativity and practical impact in cultural tourism.

 

The competition, jointly organized by the Beihai Municipal People’s Government, Guangxi Department of Culture and Tourism, China Data Development Bureau, Guangxi International Expo Bureau, and others, culminated in the finals on September 16, 2025, in Nanning, Guangxi. In the ASEAN University Category, Team Malayan Tiger stood out against strong contenders from the University of Malaya, National University of Singapore, and the Republic of Indonesia Defense University.

 

In recognition of their success, the Organizing Committee has invited the team to showcase TravelMate AI in the “Competition Achievement Zone”, jointly built with the Beihai Municipal Government, where their innovation will be featured to leaders, experts, and the public.

 

This remarkable accomplishment is a testament to Loh Jinsen’s creativity, talent, and hard work, and it reflects FIST and MMU’s commitment to nurturing future-ready innovators in the field of AI and technology.

Held on 24th and 25th July 2025 at the scenic PARKROYAL A’Famosa Melaka Resort, the two-day, one-night summit brought together ICT educators from across the country for a dynamic exchange of ideas, innovation, and collaboration. This event was fully sponsored by Huawei Technologies (Malaysia).

The event was also graced by the presence of distinguished guests, including Mr. Nik Hishamuddin from MDEC, Mr. Hafifi Hafiz from the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE), Mdm Nor Hasimah from INTAN, and Mr. Zaharuddin from Huawei Technologies (Malaysia).

Held as part of 91’s continued efforts to support digital talent development, the Huawei Instructor Summit 2025 served as a platform to:
