We are delighted to announce FCA student Jeremy Emang Jecky documentary project “To work/Tei Kakah” will be screened at SeaShorts Film Festival on the 25th – 29th September 2019, competing in the main programme competition in Malacca. With “To work/Tei Kakah”, Jeremy hopes to use his love for cinema to share the stories and folklore of Borneo to the world.

SeaShorts is a film festival dedicated to Southeast Asian short films. Beyond film screenings, it also features forums, workshops, exhibitions and music performances by filmmakers across the 5-day event.

CreatorCon is the first of a series of events which brings together a community of content creators, be it photographers and cinematographers, to Youtube personalities, movie directors and more, to share insights and kick start conversations on all things photography.

“Weeping Birds” is going to Wales! We are delighted to announce FCA alumni Chan Teik Quan and Anakanda Pictures Final Year Project “Weeping Birds” will be screened at Cardiff International Film Festival 2019 on the 24th – 27th of October 2019, competing in the Foreign Language Short Film Competition in Cardiff!

Cardiff International Film Festival is an international event which is supported by the Welsh Assembly and Cardiff Council. In 2019, it will again be hosted in the historical Pierhead Building in the heart of Cardiff Bay, Wales.
Wales is rapidly becoming a Mecca for filmmakers with the advent of new film studios and an ever-growing popularity of film locations in unique areas of outstanding natural beauty. This is coupled with a fertile and highly skilled cinematic and TV workforce.

Cardiff International Film Festival offers a warm welcome to filmmakers and invites submissions from across the Globe.

The Star Education Fund scholarship is offered under the collaboration between Star Media Group with some of the best educational institutions in Malaysia to provide higher education opportunities to deserving young Malaysians.

ELIGIBILITY

  • Malaysian citizens not more than 25 years of age.
  • Excel in extra-curricular activities or active in sports.
  • Not bonded to or in receipt of any financial aid or awards from other educational institutions or organisations.
  • Possess reasonably good result in SPM / UEC or equivalent (for Foundation / Diploma courses).
  • Possess reasonably good results in STPM / UEC or equivalent (for Degree courses).

FCA bagged first runner-up award for the category of Innovative Studies Programme Curriculum at the Innovative Curriculum and Delivery Design 2018 (AKRI 2018) at the Movenpick Hotel & Convention Centre on 14 December 2018.

Mr. Amir Shahlan Amiruddin, the Dean of FCA received the award from Yang Berhormat Maszlee Malik, the Minister of Education. Also attended the ceremony were MMU Vice President of Academic and Internationalisation, Prof. Dr. Ho Chin Kuan and Director of Academic Development for Excellence in Programmes and Teaching (ADEPT), Prof. Dr. Neo Mai as VIP guests.

FCA, was among the five finalists from out of 200 applicants from public and private institute of higher learning (IHLS) institutions for this category. For the final round, the finalists were required to pitch their best practices to a panel of judges and eventually, FCA which representing MMU emerged as the first runner-up.

AKRI 2018 aims to identify, recognise and be a best practice sharing platform for projects and initiatives that have been implemented either at the institutional or individual level in redesigning higher education in Malaysia. The participation of AKRI 2018 was divided into three categories; Innovative Studies Program Curriculum, Transformative Teaching, and Experience of Immersive Learning. For “Innovative Studies Program Curriculum” category, the award is aimed at identifying innovation in higher education programs at all stages that successfully produce graduates with high marketability and competitiveness.

We are proud to announce that Adderly Suhaimi, one of our students from Faculty of Cinematic Arts won an Audience Award at the Aputure Film Festival in Los Angeles, California recently. His entry highlighted on how he built the D-I-Y Lighting Equipment by using recycle materials within 4 days. Through his winning, he received a prize of USD 10,000 or RM40, 000 worth of equipment.

There were 18 companies participated in sponsoring the festival including Aputure, Blackmagic Design, Freefly and many more. This online competition offered a total prize of USD 100,000 worth of equipment with six main awards and three official selections. The competition managed to attract participation of around 300 filmmakers around the world in producing more than 400 films.

Iskandar Puteri, 15 December 2018 – The Faculty of Cinematic Arts (FCA) 91 (MMU) in conjunction with Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI) YOUnified, will be hosting an American Film Showcase on the 15th and 16th December 2018 at MMU, Nusajaya, Johor in collaboration with the US Embassy in Kuala Lumpur. Highlights of the event include;

  1. Film screening of award-winning American documentaries
  2. Film screening of selected FCA documentaries
  3. Q&A session with the film-makers
  4. Crowdfunding session for Final Year Projects

In the cinema hall of FCA itself, the showcase unveils a total of 12 documentaries and short films, although made very far apart from each other, the themes of justice, love and celebration of life resonates throughout the whole programme.

We are proud to announce that “The Gold Chain”, a film produced by our Faculty of Cinematic Arts (FCA) students emerged as champion for short film category at Talent Seeker competition. The competition was organised by NK Production along with MPP Unisel and it was held at Unisel Bestari Jaya on 12 December 2018. It aims to seek for talents among university students in four main categories; singing, dancing, short film competition and extra talents such as spray paint art.

Four short films were shortlisted and the jury members for the short film category were Karthik Shalaman (Director of EVT the Farm, Atcham Thavir and Sughamaai Subbulakshmi) and Vignesh Subramaniam (Editor, Film Practitioner, and Production Coordinator at Pocket Cinema). ‘The Gold Chain’ also gets a chance to be screened at Cine Festival Malaysia 6 which will be held in March 2019.
