FAIE Expands Photovoltaic Technology Outreach KTP Programme in Schools /faie/faie-expands-photovoltaic-technology-outreach-ktp-programme-in-schools/ Fri, 08 May 2026 12:28:10 +0000 /faie/?p=20910 The Faculty of Artificial Intelligence & Engineering (FAIE), in collaboration with the Engineers Without Borders (EWB) MMU Student Chapter, IEM MMU Student Section, and IEEE MMU Student Branch, conducted a series of Knowledge Transfer Programme (KTP) sessions on Photovoltaic (PV) Technology in April 2026.

At Kolej Tingkatan Enam Bandar Utama, 51 students participated in a hands-on session led by Ir. Dr. Siva Priya and Dr. Teh Chin Hui. The programme introduced participants to the fundamentals of solar energy systems, covering key PV components such as solar panels, charge controllers, batteries, and electrical loads. Students were also guided through theoretical inputs on solar cell voltage and power output before taking part in practical activities, including voltage calculations, performance measurements, and experiments on partial shading effects.

Next day, the team engaged with Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Saujana Putra, 96 students participated in a Photovoltaic Technology and Net-Zero Carbon Initiatives programme led by Ir. Dr. Siva Priya and Ir. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gobbi Ramasamy. The session was designed to introduce students to the principles of solar energy and its role in advancing sustainable development. Emphasis was placed on understanding how photovoltaic (PV) systems convert sunlight into usable electrical energy, alongside the importance of renewable energy in achieving net-zero carbon goals. The programme further reinforced understanding of photovoltaic systems and their role in the clean energy transition, combining conceptual learning with practical exposure to solar energy applications.

Across both programmes, MMU student facilitators from EWB were actively involved in guiding students through practical activities, while gaining valuable exposure in instruction, leadership, and community engagement. The initiatives also helped generate interest in engineering and renewable energy among students.

FAIE Brings Solar Energy Knowledge to SMK Jugra Through KTP Initiative /faie/faie-brings-solar-energy-knowledge-to-smk-jugra-through-ktp-initiative/ Fri, 17 Apr 2026 13:08:19 +0000 /faie/?p=20873 On 2 April 2026, the Faculty of Artificial Intelligence & Engineering (FAIE), in collaboration with Engineers Without Borders (EWB), the Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM), and the IEEE Student Branch, organised a Knowledge Transfer Programme (KTP) at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Jugra in Banting, Selangor.

Led by Dr. Teh Chin Hui and Ir. Dr. Siva Priya Thiagarajah, the initiative aimed to introduce students to solar energy systems and inspire interest in engineering and sustainable technology.

The programme began with a Photovoltaic (PV) Technology Fundamentals workshop conducted by Dr. Teh Chin Hui. Students were introduced to the basic components of a solar energy system, including solar panels, charge controllers, batteries, and simple electrical loads such as USB-powered fans and lights. The session was delivered through an interactive presentation to strengthen conceptual understanding.

In the second phase, students participated in a hands-on activity where they assembled a functional solar system using the components provided. The setup was then taken outdoors, allowing students to observe how sunlight is used to charge the system while presenting their work to the FAIE team.

As part of the initiative, the team also supported the installation of solar-powered lights around the school compound, contributing to the practical application of sustainable energy solutions.

The programme is expected to spark greater interest among students in engineering and STEM fields, while encouraging exploration of renewable energy and sustainable innovation as future career pathways.
